Frequently asked questions
What is URL encoding?
URLs can only contain a limited set of ASCII characters. URL encoding (percent-encoding) replaces unsafe characters like spaces, & and non-ASCII text with % followed by hex codes.
What is the difference between %20 and +?
In query strings, both represent a space: %20 is the standard percent-encoding, while + is legacy form encoding used by HTML forms. Use the standard form unless you specifically need form encoding.
Does it handle Unicode?
Yes — non-ASCII characters like Hindi or emoji are encoded as UTF-8 percent-sequences, exactly as browsers do.
