Frequently asked questions

What is NPS?

The National Pension Scheme is a government-backed retirement scheme where you contribute regularly during your working years and receive a pension after retirement, with part of the corpus paid as a lump sum.

How much of my NPS corpus must I annuitise?

At retirement you must use at least 40% of the corpus to buy an annuity that pays a monthly pension. The remaining 60% can be withdrawn as a lump sum.

What annuity rate does this calculator assume?

It assumes a 6% annual annuity rate, a typical market rate, to estimate the monthly pension. Your actual pension depends on the insurer and the annuity plan you choose.
