Frequently asked questions

How is gratuity calculated?

For employers covered by the Payment of Gratuity Act, gratuity is last drawn basic salary plus DA multiplied by 15, divided by 26, then multiplied by completed years of service. Six months or more rounds up to a full year.

When do I become eligible for gratuity?

You need at least five years of continuous service with the same employer, except in cases of death or disablement where the five-year condition is waived.

Is gratuity taxable?

Gratuity up to ₹20,00,000 is exempt for most employees; any amount above that is taxable as salary income. Government employees receive gratuity fully exempt.
