Frequently asked questions
What is PPF?
The Public Provident Fund is a 15-year government savings scheme that pays a fixed interest rate and offers tax-free returns under section 80C, with a maximum deposit of ₹1,50,000 a year.
How is PPF interest calculated?
Interest is calculated on the balance in your account at the start of each year, including the deposit made that year, and is credited at the end of the year. This calculator assumes deposits at the start of each year.
Can I withdraw or extend my PPF?
Partial withdrawals are allowed from the seventh year and the full balance matures after 15 years. You can extend the account in blocks of five years with or without further deposits.
